Click through to read a review of Relient K's upcoming covers EP "K is for Karaoke".

I always enjoy listening to an established band perform cover songs. It's nice to hear their take on a classic song. Relient K, who try to include a cover song whenever they play live, have decided to do a cover album. First comes the EP which comes out June 28th digitally and will be available at the Vans Warped Tour which they are a part of again this year. Then later this year on Oct 4th they're release the full album version.

"K is for Karaoke" is all over the place. Here are some of the artists covered on the EP: Cyndi Lauper, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Justin Beiber...that's right Justin Beiber, They Might Be Giants, Gnarls Barkley, Tears for Fears and Weezer. See this covers just about everything. The first track is Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." While I'm sure most people will claim Lauper's version is better, I like the punk vibe they bring to the song.

"Here Comes My Girl" makes me want to listen to Tom Petty, which I think is the ultimate compliment to a band covering a song. When you do a cover song, part of you wants to turn your audience on to the original artist and Relient K does that here. I can honestly say that I've listened to Relient K's version of Justin Beiber's "Baby" more than I've heard Beiber's version. You can tell the guys are having fun with this song.

My absolute favorite song on the album is Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy." The original song is just so...original, it's got a great beat, melody, chorus etc. Relient K add their own flavor to it which is true to the original, but turns it into a good rock song by the end. When the guitars kick in I really start to enjoy myself.

Do I recommend this EP? Sure, especially if you like to have a good time listening to music. The guys in Relient K clearly had a lot of fun putting these songs together and if you're into having a lot of fun listening to them then I recommend it. If you hate when bands do cover albums then this is probably not for you. Relient K stays true to the original versions of each song, they just Relient K them up a little which makes for a fun listening experience.
